Dallas Kelso Biography
Dallas Kelso was first hired and had his first employment opportunities in one of the well known Company around Australia. He works in a credit card industry he was working with Charge Card Services operating large output processing systems from computer printout credit card statements. This includes the process of what they called "Trim and Burst" an operating machine that would remove the both edge with holes of the paper print out from the computer and rip it in a unique and single credit card statement. I will then continue to process the credit card statements into a huge machanical mail machines to produce a thousand letters per hour, The machine automatically insert the credit card statements into the envelopes.
Back then, due to his ability to work under pressure he had an opportunity to get into work with Australian Guarantee Corporation (known as AGC, owned subsidiary of Westpac Bank) with the same line of work, and put him in much challenging job which expanded into the operating of the mainframe computer systems. This Company extends Dallas Kelso's interest in Information Technology and in the various career paths available throughout the IT industry. For four years working with AGC, Dallas Kelso progressed through many areas of the company and got a managerial position in the output services department for the Data Processing Operations. With the amalgation of Westpac and AGC IT systems, Dallas start finding new opportunities.
Until such time came, he had then got the oppurtunity available to work in the Computer Operations Division of Continuum, It is an American wholes outsourcing company to run Barclays Bank with a contract at that time. It is one of the company that never sleep who ran 24 hour a day 7 days a week, and Dallas lead the team of four people in their shift looking after the processing of all data for Barclays Bank and Continuum. This kind of a job had th environment which contained a huge water cooled IBM Mainframe computer systems sitting on a raised floor, it is includes the processing of tape and cartridge units and large mainframe printers to process the banks output.
The next opportunity became available to Dallas, and that is to work for a global market leader, International Business Machine (IBM) Dallas was hired as a production support team, part of his responsibilities is mainframe batch processing and fixing batch job failures whenever it is occured, this is to ensure the service levels meets IBMs customers and that the following day online systems would be available for all who need to use it. The client base that was managed for IBM was large and the challenge to meet service level agreements was always high on the agenda. Eventually, Dallas became the team leader of the department for production support team at IBM. Dallas does not stop looking for opportunitiy until such time that IBM and Lend Lease formed a new joint venture company well known as ISSC.Dallas decided to pursue a new career for this newly formed company and leave IBM for a while.
Dallas continued outsourcing until then a recruitment agency approached him to source special skills for software and outsourcing company also known as Policy Management Systems Australia (PMSA). After that, He was hired to lead the group for production support department. His job involved managing of a group with five people reporting into the data center manager. Each and everyone of the member is responsible to support the operations department 24 hours a day 7 days a week on call, this is to prevent any major incident from their customer being online. Dallas also responsible for a project management of new automation systems and performance tuning of batch processing. Lots of accomplishment were achieved during his time at PMSA with the help of his team who were been as dedicated as he was to getting the projects completed. Before he left the company the accomplishment went through the CEO and they were well recognised by the company. He never really think of leaving this company, meanwhile he had a chance to meet a software company from where he interacted in a regular basis. That makes him thinking of challenge himself and take the oppurtunity with Executive Computing.
Dallas started his career in Jobscan, as a pre and post sales support for a mainframe computer software product. This role is to checked the validity and syntax of Job Control Language on the IBM Mainframe Computer Systems, as software sub system. While dallas working as an Executive Computing, he was approached to learn about one of their products which is the Data Investigator, an impact of change analysis tool for mainframe programing code such as Cobol,Assembler, JCL and other programming languages. From here he visualise a new opportunity and a possible new carrer. Three months later, Dallas has to meet the Company's Managing Director to present a report of what he got from Data Investigator. When meeting ends, His visualization became into reality he moved into a very new career path, He became a World Wide Product Manager for the Data Investigator Product, His responsibilities expanded into being responsible to find distributors world wide and making support network for their sales and marketing channels. This jobs intend to make sales and get the market world wide and required excessive overseas travel, Dallas never fail of achieving his goal in this kind of a job and many of the milestone were achieved, The time has come that he though of the time away from his Family was not worth sacrificing over his family. This time he decided to make a career that would not require traveling away from his loving family but still he can be responsible both of his role and family.
By this time, Dallas was well networked across the IT industry and one of his senior contacts in IBM Australia mentioned that there were several key opportunities in IBM. Within 24 hours, Dallas was called by one of the executive managers within IBM to discuss a client facing role within IBM, looking after one of their large clients known as Lend Lease. Over the next 14 years, Dallas moved around within IBM doing many different jobs. He performed other client facing roles, as the Delivery Manager for NRMA and Legal & General. He spent 18 months as the National Operations Manager, in a team involved in setting up the new ATM network within IBM. For many years after this, Dallas was involved in various operational consolidation projects within the IBM Data Centers around Australia. Dallas was also selected to be part of the integration team to integrate a newly acquired company that IBM purchased from Price Waterhouse Coopers consulting, where he and the project team integrated the whole consulting company into IBM. The final chapter in Dallas' career at IBM was leading a team of professionals in the software asset management group and working in a senior consulting capacity for new complex bids into IBM.
